Identifying African bushmeat for sale in Brussels using DNA

In the framework of two TV documentaries broadcasted on October 3rd 2018, journalists working for VRT and RTBF bought “undercover” several pieces of meat sold as bushmeat in Brussels and Kisangani. The journalists contacted BopCo because of its know-how on DNA-based species identification and the expertise on the subject present at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS) and the Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA). A ‘User Story’ entitled “Identifying African bushmeat for sale in Brussels using DNA” and recently published on Lifewatch.be describes the services BopCo provided to the journalists and the outcome of the bushmeat identifications.
